How this compares
Traditional answering services are priced around staffing costs. Published rates as of 2026.
| Service | Entry price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Dispatch Desks | $79 / mo | 250 minutes, booking included, live same day |
| Ruby | $235+ / mo | ~100 minutes, message taking |
| Smith.ai | $285+ / mo | ~30 calls, add-ons for booking |
| AnswerConnect | $325+ / mo | Per-minute plans, contract terms |
Do I have to change my phone number?
No. You forward your existing line — always, after hours, or only when you don't pick up in four rings.
What happens on a call it can't handle?
It follows your escalation rules: warm transfer to a person, take a detailed message, or text the owner immediately.
How long does setup take?
Most businesses are live the same day. The builder generates the playbook; you review the greeting and rules.
What happens if I go over my minutes?
Nothing stops working. You're billed the per-minute overage for your plan, and we'll flag it if a bigger plan would be cheaper for you.
What counts as a minute?
Only time spent actually talking to a caller, rounded to the nearest six seconds. Rings, voicemail drops, and hang-ups under ten seconds are free.
Will callers know it's AI?
It introduces itself by name and never pretends to be a specific employee. You choose how it discloses.
